Objectives: The objective of this course is to analyse key aspects of the history and current state of Palestine, and then reflect on the relations between Palestine and Brazil, from the perspective of civil society and some of the main social movements in these countries. By deconstructing misconceptions about the Palestinian and Brazilian civil society movements, we hope to promote the exchange of knowledge, opening the way for epistemologies that, in this way, may be constructed collaboratively.
Course description: The distinct histories, social and religious compositions, and current conditions that characterise Brazil and Palestine do not obscure the sentiment of identification that frequently stems from the encounter between them. This course will seek to elucidate and reflect on the possible sources of this feeling of closeness and identification: texts, novels, stories and the life depicted in them, or social issues that find expressions of similarity. Issues such as the permanence of small rural producers on the land, urban migrations, the dynamics of forced displacement in the face of ethnic cleansing, and real estate speculation, will also be addressed. Each topic will be taught by a different professor, in his or her field of research.
Objetivo: O objetivo do curso é analisar aspectos chaves da história e da atual conjuntura palestina, para em seguida voltar-se às relações entre a Palestina e o Brasil, pensadas a partir da sociedade civil e das questões sociais que apresentam inter-conexões e relações de reciprocidade. Ao desconstruir estereótipos, esperamos abrir o caminho para uma aproximação ancorada na construção do conhecimento.
Ementa: As distintas histórias, composições sociais e religiosas e as condições atuais que caracterizam o Brasil e a Palestina não obscurecem o sentimento de identificação que frequentemente brota do encontro entre eles. Este curso busca elucidar e refletir sobre as possíveis fontes dessa proximidade e identificação: textos, romances, histórias e a vida retratada neles, ou questões sociais que encontram expressões de semelhança. Também serão abordadas questões como a permanência de pequenos produtores rurais na terra, as migrações urbanas, a dinâmica do deslocamento forçado diante da limpeza étnica e a especulação imobiliária.
